Treating Warts and Molluscum Contagiosum
The dermatologists at Texas Dermatology and Laser Specialists remove warts, molluscum contagiosum and other types of skin growths.
Warts and Molluscum Contagiosum
Warts and molluscum contagiosum are two skin conditions with a few commonalities. Both conditions cause bumps to appear anywhere on the body, however bumps have a different appearance. The bumps from molluscum contagiosum have a pit in the center, while warts are usually more raised and rounded. Highly contagious, molluscum contagiosum also spreads more easily than warts.
Cause and Treatment
Both warts and molluscum contagiosum are caused by a virus, and are more prevalent in children than adults. The bumps from both conditions will clear without treatment, however healing may take years without treatment. To prevent spreading, infection and other problems, removal of the bumps is advised. In some cases, surgical removal is recommended.
