WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A CHEMICAL PEEL?
An appointment for a chemical peel is usually between 30-45 minutes. The aesthetician will cleanse your skin with a mild cleanser to prep for treatment. The chemical peel is is than applied in thin layers on the area to be treated, avoiding the eye area. The aesthetician will gauge your level of comfort by using the standard pain tolerance scale of 1-10. Typically, no more than 3-6 layers are applied, depending on the area and severity of skin condition.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER A CHEMICAL PEEL?
After application of the chemical peel, the patient will be given a post-procedure kit with products that will assist in the skin’s peeling process over the next several days. There is no need to remove the chemical peel, our choice of chemical peels are self-neutralizing. Meaning the chemicals will only penetrate to certain depth and will NOT require to be wiped off. This makes your appointment time efficient, with minimal post care instructions and there is never a risk of burn or harm to the skin from the treatment.
The first two days usually have no peeling, but by day 3 through day 7, patients will experience the skin peeling in sheets. Some patients feel more comfortable not being in public during this process, and schedule their chemical peel mid-week, so they have the weekend to recover, in private.
