Excessive sweating and underarm odor are problems that men and women try to manage on their own—but when you have hyperhidrosis, the task is practically impossible. The miraDry® procedure can help. Texas Dermatology offers miraDry® for residents of San Antonio, Kenedy, New Braunfels, and other areas of Texas.
WHAT IS MIRADRY®?
miraDry® is a minimally invasive procedure that destroys sweat glands to reduce the excessive sweating and underarm odor that occurs with hyperhidrosis. The treatment is a safe and effective way to manage sweating that causes:
- Social embarrassment
- Staining of clothes
- Large wet areas on clothing
- Noticeable underarm odor
Another consideration is how well your antiperspirant and deodorant help to control the sweating and odor. If you find that applying these products throughout the day makes little to know difference, miraDry® may be a good alternative.
After numbing both of the underarm areas, the handpiece is comfortably placed directly on the skin, right above the sweat glands.
The handpiece uses a gentle suction power to lift the sweat glands closer to the surface.
HOW MUCH DOES MIRADRY® COST?
The cost of your miraDry® treatment can be determined after you meet with Dr. Browning or one of our other dermatologists for a consultation. The dermatologist will discuss your symptoms and recommend miraDry® if it is appropriate. We review the cost and explain our financing options through CareCredit®.
DO I HAVE HYPERHIDROSIS?
There is no clear and concise way to diagnose hyperhidrosis except to consider your symptoms. Sweating more when we are anxious, in public situations, or under stress are normal. The condition translates into hyperhidrosis when you are soaked with perspiration in almost every type of environment, even when you are just relaxing at home. If you feel embarrassed by the amount that you sweat and underarm odor, you are likely a good candidate for miraDry® at Texas Dermatology.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MIRADRY®?
- Minimally invasive
- Destroys sweat glands to reduce perspiration and underarm odor
- Little to no downtime
DON’T I NEED SWEAT GLANDS?
Not in your underarms! The sweat glands in the underarm area only account for about 2 percent of the total amount in your whole body. Your body is able to continue to sweat as normal after these sweat and odor glands are removed.
HOW IS MIRADRY® PERFORMED?
The miraDry® procedure is painless and comfortable. We inject both underarm areas with a numbing agent so you feel nothing during the entire treatment.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY LIKE AFTER MIRADRY®?
There is little to no downtime after the miraDry® treatment. Most patients are able to return to daily activity, work, and school. You’ll be able resume exercise and strenuous activity after 72 hours.
